Brew Review: Unicorn Rodeo - Double-Dry-Hopped Extra Pale Ale by Hackney Brewery

Guest Reviewer:

James Claxton

From Hackney Brewery, who brew their beers from their premises under railway arches in Hackney, London, Unicorn Rodeo is the brewery’s annual release and ties in with their ongoing commitment to UK charities, where in this case they are sharing the profits with a good cause, and in this case with SwitchboardUK.

Appearance: Straw coloured with a white head on pouring.

Aroma: Hints of mango.

Taste: Juicy and mouth-watering, tropical citrus flavours with a nice hoppy bitterness to the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Lovely and light, followed by a smooth feeling which smothers the tongue.

Overall: A really enjoyable beer! The lovely, unfiltered flavours are punchy and definitely leave you wanting more and given that this is only coming in at 4% abv there’s no reason not to (responsibly) enjoy a second. This deliciously refreshing beverage comes in a 440ml can, and can be purchased directly from Hackney Brewery in cases of 12 or 24 cans, coming in at £35 for 12 (and £70 for 24) at the time of this review, making the price per can around £2.92, which is exceedingly good value for a beer this good.

Ingredients:

Water, malt, wheat, hops, yeast

Malt: Lager, Wheat

Hops: Citra, Simcoe, Amarillo, Mosaic, Columbus

Rating: 4.50/5.00
