Matching a great snack to a great beer!

Updated: Jun 24, 2020

Have you found a particular snack pairs well with a certain beer?

Matching a great snack with a great beer takes great expertise. It’s not always a simple case of saying a bag of peanuts goes well with a lager, although it is pretty much a match made in heaven.

Matching food and drink (properly) takes years to perfect, if at all, and there are so many books that do their best to pair a hazy IPA to a salt crunchy snack, but if you don't have time to read those books (although I would recommend reading Mark Dredge's book called Beer and Food Matching) then I can recommend 10 snacks which tend to go with pretty much any IPA, Pale Ale or Lager.

A few years ago, Joe & Seph's collaborated with Brewdog and released their beer matching popcorn and it was really really good. I was very partial to the madras curry popcorn with a pint of Punk IPA and it opened my mind to trying unusual snacks with a pint of the good stuff.

Top 10 snacks to accompany beer:

  1. Smiths Scampi Fries

  2. Snaffling Pig - Low & Slow BBQ

  3. Joe & Seph's Madras Curry, Black Onion Seed & Lime Popcorn

  4. Jacobs Mini Cheddars

  5. Salted Cashews (any brand)

  6. Penn State original sea salted pretzels

  7. Blue Diamond Almonds Roasted Sea Salt

  8. Billy Franks Hot N' Spicy Beef Jerky

  9. Wasabi peas (any brand)

  10. Salami Milano crisps (Marks & Spencers)

I do find that Salami Milano crisps from Marks & Spencers goes really well with east London brewer Howling Hops's Tropical Deluxe Pale Ale. The sweet and savoury notes are a perfect match.
